Tohoku and Thammasat discuss Gateway College collaboration

On 19 May 2025, Professor Dr. Supasawad Chardchawarn, the Rector of Thammasat, welcomed Prof. Dr. Tetsuya Nagasaka, Vice-President for Social Outreach and Research Collaboration at Tohoku University in Japan, to Thammasat’s Rangsit campus.  

Prof. Tetsuya Nagasaka was accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anawat Suppasri from the School of Engineering. Also present to receive the Tohoku delegation were the Vice Rector for Administration (Tha Prachan Campus) and Digital Affairs, as well as senior executives from the Faculty of Engineering, College of Innovation, and the Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology. Joining the Tohoku side was an Assistant Professor in Engineering from Mahidol University 

The primary purpose of the visit was to provide an update on the official establishment of Gateway College, an upcoming international institution offering interdisciplinary studies. Discussions centered on recruitment strategies for the college.  

Professor Supasawad emphasized that many talented students graduate from Thammasat Secondary School each year and are likely well-suited for the innovative programs Gateway College will offer. He also presented an overview of the successful Science Classrooms in University – Affiliated School Project”, a collaboration  with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. The project aims to strengthen scientific and language proficiency among secondary school students, thereby bridging the educational gap between secondary and higher education in science and technology.  

Additionally, Professor Supasawad expressed his interest in exploring the possibility of a Dual Degree program between Thammasat and Tohoku, signaling a commitment to deepen academic collaboration between the two institutions.
