Thammasat explores partnership opportunities with Leiden

On 1 August 2025, Thammasat University warmly welcomed representatives from Leiden University in The Netherlands to its Tha Prachan campus to discuss potential avenues for academic collaboration.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supreedee Rittironk, Vice Rector for International Affairs, hosted the meeting with Dr. Philippe Peycam, Director of the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS). Also attending the meeting were the Dean of the School of Global Studies and an executive from the Thammasat Design School.

Following an exchange of greetings, Dr.  Peycam introduced the key initiatives of IIAS, an international research institute jointly supported by Leiden University, the University of Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. He highlighted IIAS’s work in fostering cross-institutional collaboration through research projects, academic publishing, and its flagship Festival Conference.

During the discussion, Dr. Supreedee proposed initiating a university-level academic cooperation agreement to create a framework for expanding collaboration across multiple  faculties at Thammasat. The School of Global Studies and the Thammasat Design School expressed strong interest in pursuing faculty-level collaboration, particularly in areas such as postdoctoral fellowships, urban studies, the Festival Conference, the ASEAN Youth Lab, and the International Convention of Asian Scholars (ICAS) conference.
