On 7 March 2025, the OIA at Thammasat and Pridi Banomyong International College, in collaboration with the Siam Cement Public Company Limited (SCG), organized a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity focused on reconstructing a check dam at Yai Da Mountain in Rayong Province. Nearly 50 international students from Thammasat University joined the day trip to Rayong Province, where they engaged in activities promoting watershed management and sustainable resource use. Working closely with local communities and conservation experts, the students took part in hands-on activities that combined community service with learning about local environmental wisdom and sustainable practices.
The activity began with an opening speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supreedee Rittironk, Vice Rector for International Affairs at Thammasat University, who underscored the importance of the event’s objectives and emphasized the university’s commitment to integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its programs and activities. Participants were then introduced to background information on water management challenges within the Yai Da Mountain Watershed ecosystem and learned how to reconstruct check dams.
The main activity involved hands-on participation in reconstructing and reinforcing check dams using natural materials such as rocks. Through this practical experience, students developed teamwork, environmental stewardship, and volunteerism skills while gaining a deeper understanding of community-based conservation.
The event also reaffirmed Thammasat’s commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
