Take a Sweet Break – An Engaging Cultural Exchange

On 4 September 2026, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) hosted a hands-on Thai dessert workshop at the Dhammanatee Building, Tha Prachan Campus. Attracting more than 80 enthusiastic international students, the event introduced participants to the authentic tastes of Thai sweets and encouraged them to enjoy both the practical cooking session and a truly international learning experience.

The event opened with welcoming remarks by Dr. Usanee Patapsikij Lertrattananon, Assistant to the Rector for International Affairs. This was followed by a live cooking demonstration of Kanom Buang (Thai crispy pancakes), featuring both the sweet version topped with golden foy thong (egg-yolk threads) and the savory version filled with minced shrimp, shredded coconut, or coriander.

Beyond the cooking session, the OIA showcased an array of Thai desserts, with each delicacy introduced through explanations of its local ingredients and opportunities for tasting. Highlights included Khao Tom Mad (bananas with sticky rice), Khanom Tom (Thai coconut balls), crispy rice crackers, Thai coconut ice cream, Nam Kang Sai (shaved ice with a variety of toppings), and more.

The workshop not only offered a memorable culinary experience that blended traditional Thai dessert-making with hands-on learning, but also provided opportunities to deepen cultural understanding and foster connections among students from around the world.
