Thammasat hosts Thai Peace Day 2025

16 August 2025 – Thammasat hosted Thai Peace Day 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Free Thai Movement at the Tha Prachan campus’ Memorial Garden: Thammasat and the Fight for Democracy.  

The event began with a Ceremony Report by Asst. Prof. Dr.Nattapon Sang-arun, Assistant to the Rector for Administration (Tha Prachan Campus), followed by an opening address from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Danupun Visuwan, Vice Rector for Planning and Quality Development. 

Ambassadors and representatives from twelve embassies, together with Thammasat executives, faculty members, and distinguished guests joined the commemoration. Embassy delegations were formally greeted and warmly welcomed by the Vice Rector and the Assistant to the Rector for International Affairs.   

The ceremony featured flower tributes at the Free Thai Movement and Casualties of World War II Sculpture, honoring the bravery of the Free Thai Movement and those who sacrificed their lives during World War II. Tribute speeches were delivered by representatives of the Thammasat University Students’ Union, the Thammasat Students’ Council, and the university’s Christian, Muslim, and Buddhist Clubs.  

Following the memorial, an academic seminar was held at the Sriburapha Auditorium, titled “The Future of Thailand–ASEAN: Cooperation for Peace Amidst a New World Order”. The program also featured a special screening of “The King of the White Elephant: Film, Free Thai, and the Sound of Peace in World Memory”, a work inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World International Register on 17 April 2025.
