Cooking Like Thais: Kai Jeow & the Art of Tasting as You Go

19 January 2026 – The OIA, in collaboration with Pridi Banomyong International College (PBIC), hosted an interactive cooking workshop entitled “Thais Like Kai Jeow – Kai Jeow of Your Own”, at Pridi Banomyong Court on Thammasat’s Tha Prachan campus.  The event was designed to help international students adjust to a cross-cultural environment while studying at Thammasat University through hands-on culinary experience.

Dr. Usanee Patapsikij Lertrattananon, Assistant to the Rector for International Affairs, warmly welcomed nearly 70 students to the workshop. She introduced participants to the fundamentals of preparing Kai Jeow, a classic Thai-style omelet, and demonstrated how the dish can be customized with a variety of ingredients such as spring onion and Thai sweet basil, allowing each student to personalize their creation.

Dr. Usanee then led a lively cooking demonstration, presenting a creative yet practical approach to making Kai Jeow that students could easily recreate in their own kitchens. She was joined by Dr. Ornthicha Duangratana, Acting Assistant Dean for Research and International Affairs at Pridi Banomyong International College, who supported the session and engaged with participants throughout the activity.

Allez Cuisine! Students rolled up their sleeves to cook their own versions of Kai Jeow and enjoyed their dishes alongside Pad Kra Pao (Thai basil stir-fry), a popular local combination. The meal concluded with refreshing Thai-style ice cream, all shared in a warm and friendly atmosphere filled with laughter, conversation and cultural exchange.

The workshop offered an enjoyable and immersive introduction to Thai cuisine for students with little or no prior cooking experience. More importantly, it fostered meaningful cultural connections, allowing participants to gain a deeper appreciation of Thai culinary traditions and the shared joy of cooking across cultures.
