On 18 October 2025, nearly 50 international Thammasat students took a day trip to Rayong province, blending community service with an appreciation of local environmental wisdom. The OIA at Thammasat and Pridi Banomyong International College, in collaboration with the Siam Cement Public Company Limited (SCG), organized a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity focused on reconstructing a check dam at Yai Da Mountain in Rayong Province. For over a decade, SCG has worked closely with local communities and conservation experts to promote watershed management and sustainable resource use in this area.
Upon arrival at the village community learning center, participants were welcomed by an opening speech from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supreedee Rittironk, Vice Rector for International Affairs. In his remarks, he emphasized the objectives of the event and underscored Thammasat’s core value as a “University for the People”. He also highlighted the importance of integrating the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the university’s initiatives.
Following the opening session, a local conservation expert provided participants with background information on the ecological significance of check dams and their role in addressing water management challenges within the Yai Da Mountain watershed ecosystem.
The main activity involved hands-on participation in reconstructing and reinforcing the check dams using materials such as rocks. Through this practical experience, students developed teamwork, problem-solving, and environmental stewardship skills. The initiative not only enriched their volunteering experience but also reinforced Thammasat University’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development, particularly contributing to SDG 15 (Life on Land), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
