11 June 2024 – Ms. Maki Kawamura, Counsellor, accompanied by high-level administrative officials from the Japanese Embassy in Thailand, paid a courtesy call on Professor Dr. Supasawad Chardchawarn, the Rector of Thammasat, to congratulate him on his appointment as the new Thammasat University Rector. Joining the Rector at Thammasat-Tha Prachan to welcome the Counsellor was the new Vice Rector for International Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supreedee Rittironk.
Both sides expressed their pleasure with the long relationship and unwavering collaboration between Thammasat and Japan and considered ways to reaffirm the friendly relations by enhancing current exchange and short programs. Also discussed were ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation through the Official Development Assistance (ODA) program between Japan and Thailand to celebrate ODA’s 70th anniversary.
The Japanese delegation sought support from Thammasat to disseminate information about World Expo 2025 which will be held in Osaka City in Japan from 13 April to 13 October 2025. Its theme is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” which reflects the Japanese Government’s strategy of sustainability called “Japan’s National Strategy Society 5.0”. At the expo, Thailand will be showcased at its own Thai Pavilion.
The Japanese Embassy invited the Rector of Thammasat, successful in his career and a distinguished alumnus of Kobe University, to be interviewed for a Japanese journal which the Rector enthusiastically accepted.
